Beadwork Storytellers, A Visual Language
By the end of the twentieth century, there were only about a dozen people who had mastered the art of post-contact, pre-removal Southeastern Woodlands bead work. Of that dozen, only half were actually descendants of any of the Southeastern tribes. Now there is a burgeoning revival of traditional bead work among the Cherokee people.

In the last decade, the Cherokee Nation and the Cherokee Heritage Center have been strong supporters of the revival of this art form. In the effort to revive this once thriving, and exquisite art form the Cherokee Heritage Center in cooperation with the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, Denver Art Museum of Natural History and the Autry National Center have brought together this extensive collection.
