Can you give me information about the Reservation Rolls of 1817
You asked:
I think that it was you that I emailed a couple of weeks ago. I was asking about resources and references regarding the Cherokee Reservation Roll of 1817. I have found a couple of references/ books on this roll. I have been able to find a few websites with documented information. But, there does not appear to be a lot written on this particular roll. I have particular interest in this roll for several reasons.
The Georgia Chapter of the Trail of Tears is helping the Georgia DOT with a research project on the “Old Federal Road” here in Georgia. The Old Federal Road was one of the first roads cut through the heart of the Cherokee Nation in Georgia. I have noticed on Cherokee Treaties from the early 1800’s regarding this particular trading route that the men who signed these treaties are also men who took reservations or “640 acre land grants” east of the Mississippi River. I am trying to find out more about these men in hopes of bringing more background details and information to this project.
And on a personal note, I have two uncles who were deeply involved in the local Cherokee Indian affairs in the early 1800’s to 1830’s. I want very badly for my uncles (one was a Cherokee Gentlemen and the other was an Indian Agent to the Cherokee Nation ) to be honored and remembered. This project is one way for them to be remembered and honored. The research is one way for me to build a case with the locals here in my neck of the woods to remember my uncles.
If you have knowledge of references on the 1817 Rolls that you pass on to me… the titles of the references …this is what I am interested in. I can and will do the research, but would greatly appreciate any titles of references that you might have knowledge of. Thank you and have a wonderful day.

Thank you (wa-do) for your email. he Cherokee Reservation Roll is just a population census which lists persons who took a reserve. The only information provided is their name, the number in the family, etc. There is no in depth information as to birth, death or marriage dates. The only sources I have for the 1817 Reservation Roll is the following books:
Cherokee Reservees by David Keith Hampton, Baker Publishing Co., P. O. Box 20951, Oklahoma City, OK 73156, 1979.
Cherokee Emigration Rolls, 1817-1835, Jack D. Baker, Baker Publishing Co., 1977
The only records we have here at the Cherokee Family Research Center end at 1906. All of our records pertain to the Cherokee Nation here in Northeast Oklahoma. Unfortunately, we do not records for other states. We, also, unfortunately, do not have records after 1906 (as the Cherokee Nation ceased to exist as a government in 1907 with Oklahoma statehood), other than what can be found on the Internet.
