SPEAKER CREDENTIALS

GENE NORRIS—                                     
     Gene Norris is Board certified genealogist specifically trained in tracing Cherokee ancestry.  He is the senior genealogist with the Cherokee National Historical Society, Inc.  He is also a member of the Board of Certification for Genealogists in Washington, DC, the Cherokee National Historical Society, Inc., the Goingsnake District Heritage Association, the National Genealogical Society, Member of the Board of the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Trail of Tears Association, the Cherokee-Moravian Historical Association and the Carroll County Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc.
     He has actively been involved in genealogical research for twenty-three years and has been specifically concentrating on Cherokee genealogy since 1994.  He has had numerous articles published in the Carroll County Historical and Genealogical Society Quarterly and the Goingsnake Messenger Quarterly.  He also co-teaches the Cherokee Nation History Course with Roy J. Hamilton.  He has presented and spoken at several workshops, seminars and conferences on Cherokee history and genealogy research.

THOMAS G. MOONEY—
     Thomas G. Mooney,  Archivist at the Cherokee National Historical Society, Inc.,  holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from the Oklahoma City University and a Masters pf Arts in History from Tulsa University.  He has been archivist at the CNHS for 30 years.  He has authored several articles and works on history and genealogy.  He most well-known work is “Exploring Your Cherokee Ancestry,” which is sold throughout the United States and is on most library shelves in genealogy.
     He has been a speaker at several genealogical events over his many years as archivist.  He is lifetime member of the Cherokee National Historical Society, Inc., a member of the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Trail of Tears Association, and many other historical organizations.  He is a walking, living and breathing genealogical icon.

 

ROY J. HAMILTON
     Roy J. Hamilton, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation,  is past President of the Cherokee National Historical Society, Inc.  He also served, temporarily, as Interim Executive Director of the Cherokee Heritage Center.  He is a board member of the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Trail of Tears Association and a lifetime member of the Cherokee National Historical Society, Inc.  Roy has been a volunteer at the Cherokee Heritage Center since 2001, volunteering over 40 hours a week.
     He has been involved in genealogy research in the Cherokee Nation for over twenty years.  He has written numerous articles in several publications and is the author of the book, “Cherokee Warrior,” the life story of his great-great uncle, Ned Christie.  Roy also teaches the Cherokee Nation History Course in the Northeastern Oklahoma area in and around Tahlequah.  It is a free course offered by the Cherokee Nation.  He has given many presentations on Cherokee history and genealogy.
