Adams Corner Rural Village is a collection of seven buildings representing Cherokee life in the 1890s before Oklahoma statehood.

A self-guided tour of the rural village is part of the offerings of general admission to the Cherokee Heritage Center which is open daily from February through December, Mon-Sat 10 am – 5 pm, and Sunday 1 – 5 pm

K.S. “Bud” Adams, Jr. generously supported the construction and operation of Adams Corner Rural Village in memory of his mother, Blanch Keeler Adams.

The replicated small settlement officially opened June 15, 1979. At first glance, 1890s community life appears to be tranquil to our modern eyes. Yet, the era was actually a turbulent time as had been several other threatening decades such as the 1830s with the Cherokee Trail of Tears, and the 1860s with the Civil War as experienced by the Cherokee Nation.

An 1895 map shows the boundaries of the Cherokee Nation along with the locations of District Court Houses, Male and Female Seminaries, and the National Orphanage.

The General Store of Adams Corner offers old-fashioned products and shows how important such a full-service merchandise operation was to people far from railroads and cities.

There are three residences in Adams Corner Rural Village with one representing a Traditional Log Cabin and the other two being frame homes: Storekeeper's House and the Weaver's Cottage.Additionally there are the One-Room School House, the Church, and the Smokehouse.

Visitors can also see a well, a garden, and a water pump. Adjacent Nofire Farms has livestock from the era in the form of horses, cattle, and chickens.

To better understand life in the Cherokee Nation, learn about the life of Amanda Scales, an actual Cherokee citizen of the era. Cherokee arts of the time included basket making, beadwork, loom weaving, quilting, and finger weaving.
